Good News and Bad News Sunday, May 11 2008

This is one of those times where “I have some good news and some bad news.” Which do you want first? I’ll go with the good news. I finally gave my dad’s sweater to him! Just in time for summer LOL. He and Mom were both very pleased and impressed with it. Pictures here are of Daddy in his sweater:

And now the BAD NEWS:

Mom told me that she washed her sweater. I had specifically told her when I gave it to her that it was to be dry cleaned or hand washed in cold water only. She put it in the machine and washed it. It shrunk a little bit and is now slightly felted. She is very upset about it because she knows how much work I put into it. So of course I couldn’t be mad about it. I just kind of laughed it off and told her something like, “Oh well, things like that happen.” All the while I was secretly crying inside because I HAD put a lot of work and effort into that sweater. So I told her that Daddy’s sweater is to not get anywhere NEAR water. It needs to be dry cleaned ONLY. I think (if I understand the label correctly) that the Cumo yarn can be hand washed in cold water, but I don’t want her to mess his up too! Oh I really am quite upset over it.

Nothing to knit Tuesday, Jan 29 2008

I usually go to the yarn store on Saturday to pick up my weekly fix, er, supply. This past Saturday; however, I could not seem to get myself up and going and out of the house. Because of that, by Sunday evening I was out of stuff to knit. I’ve been reading other blogs on here, and have come to realize that most of you have a “stash” of a bunch of yarn that you just happen to have around. I don’t do it that way. I don’t pick up a few here and there of different yarns that take my fancy. When I buy yarn, it is with a pattern in mind. I know how much I need, pick up that many, and have the LYS hold it for me while I buy just a couple to make it through the week. Of course, I usually have 2 or 3 projects going at a time, so I buy about 2 skeins for each project each Saturday. That way when I run out of the yarn on one project, I just pick up the next project and keep right on going. I know, it would be just as easy to buy 6 skeins for one project as it is to buy 2 skeins each for 3 projects, but it keeps me from getting bored with what I’m working on. Anyway, as I said, I didn’t make it to the LYS Saturday, and now I’m OUT of yarn!!! Oh, what to do, what to do!!! And since hubby is deployed, I can’t even annoy him with the always helpful, “I”M BOOOORRRRED!” Kids (except one) are all grown and gone and doing their own thing, so they’re not around for me to annoy, and the one who is still home is either working or so busy with homework that I would feel guilty annoying her. *sigh* I guess I’ll just go to bed.

Currently working on… Wednesday, Jan 23 2008

Okay, I’ve actually got 3 projects going right now. The most important one is a sweater that I am making for my dad. I made my mom one and need to finish my dad’s before their anniversary in Feb.

Vintage KnitsJarret

The sweater I’ve already made for my mom:

The sweater I made for my mom

I am also working on a big comfy cozy wraparound sweater for me from the book Classic Knits Wraparound sweater
I have the back finished and part of one of the front pieces. My yarn store had to order more of the yarn for me, so I am waiting for it to come in. This is what I have of it so far: knitting-001.jpg and knitting-002.jpg It is done with really huge super chunky yarn and size 15 (US) needles, so it is really thick and soft and cozy.

I am also making my daughter a scarf out of really elegant purple and gold part angora yarn in honor of being accepted to LSU (yay! Go Tigers BCS Champions!) I am using the pattern from the Harry Potter pattern book: Harry Potter Knits Scarf

So, those are the 3 projects I am currently working on, and the one I have just (last week) finished.
